Make a Big Day for a Lot of Littles!

Big Day at the Lake is an annual event sponsored by a group of Lake Norman community volunteers under the leadership of Dave Yochum. The event provides a chance for kids to enjoy a day of fun on the lake, who would not ordinarily have an opportunity to do so.

In 2005 Dave Yochum  organized a group of volunteers and invited the "bigs" and "littles" of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte to enjoy a day of fun, boating, fishing, tubing and swimming on the exclusive lake. These children would not ordinarily have the opportunity to partake in any of these activities.

Yochum enlists many of his neighbors and concerned community leaders to serve as "boat hosts" and volunteers so his vision becomes reality. The "Big Day at the Lake" event culminates with a huge picnic made possible by the donations of Duke Energy for the picnic grounds and numerous local companies for the food.

In addition to the event, sponsorship opportunities are available to raise money. In 2012 funds raised will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte  organization.

OUR MISSION

Big Day at the Lake has three simple goals:
-Provide a full day of fun for the youth
-Recruit new Bigs for BBBS
-Raise money for The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, our 2012 partner.
The funds enable BBBS to recruit more individuals to become "bigs" and further improve the children's lives. Over the last 7 years approximately $400,000 has been raised by the Big Day at the Lake volunteer group and contributed to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
